More Than a Diet

Quick Fixes? NOT the Solution

More than a Diet

Skinny shakes, and magical waist trainers. Lets face it, we’ve all come across one of our favorite celebrities on Instagram; smiling with a drink in their hand or posing with a waist trainer on. The caption to these pictures usually goes something like: “Couldn’t have done it without my *insert brand name here*. We probably took it to the next step and furthered our investigation by reading some comments and Googling reviews. Some of us, perhaps, went as far as adding it to our Amazon cart; debating whether or not to get two day shipping.

Weight loss shakes, the liquid diet, whatever you want to call it, all promote the same thing—drink your calories instead of eating them. Do these skinny shakes actually help you lose weight? Of course, when all you’re drinking are some scoops of protein and water instead of actual food. It’s the easy solution to our busy New York schedules—grab a nutritious meal on the go. Still, the truth is that these are not real foods and most of the ingredients aren’t necessarily healthy for our bodies. Unless you wish to repair your muscles after a strengthening session you don’t need them. Rather, you should eat a well balanced diet incorporating vegetables, fruits, and lean produce. Food contains all the natural nutrients our body needs to sustain a healthy body.

Just like a corset, a waist trainer basically compresses all of your organs together causing indigestion and heartburn because your body isn’t receiving enough air. For these reasons, and more, waist trainers should not be used as a substitute for exercise and dieting. When used accordingly, waist trainers may help an individual to improve their posture, but note, it is NOT to be worn too tight. It is best to loosen it a little in order to work as a reminder to always engage your core.

We all want to lose weight with the least amount of effort, but we all know that it doesn’t quite work that way. These “quick fix remedies” may work for a brief period of time, however, it is common to shortly find ourselves back to the same size we were. So forget the fad diets; losing weight is a slow process. If you want results, take the small steps and put in the effort because it will lead to not only a healthier you, but also a long-lasting you.
